We Are The River

I was one of the lead artists for the 2017 Power of Vision youth mural program, done in partnership with Hope Community and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Co-leads Olivia Levins Holden, Alizarin Menninga-Fong and I worked with a group of 14 youth, most of whom were from the Minneapolis neighborhoods of Whittier & Phillips.

The lead artist team facilitated the following activities with the youth muralists: team building, developing skills, identifying issues that impact their communities, collaborating on a design, and painting the mural. We have named the mural, We Are The River.

We Are The River is located in Minneapolis on the intersection of Franklin and Clinton Aves.

Dis/connected

Inktober 2017 - Day 8 - websiteThere are times I feel disconnected from myself and from others due to my sometimes conflicting identities and the trauma-laden ruptures in my life.

This self-portrait is a part of the collection, “Arriving In Between,” which was showcased in the group exhibit Aloud. April-June 2018.

Mountains

Inktober 2017 - Day 4 - website.jpg

This piece is my 할아버지 (grandpa) and me holding hands, visiting my 할머니’s (grandma’s) ashes for the first time. My grandpa has since passed. I wanted to create this piece to honor the both of them.
