Inktober 2017 - Day 4 - website.jpg

This piece is my 할아버지 (grandpa) and me holding hands, visiting my 할머니’s (grandma’s) ashes for the first time. My grandpa has since passed. I wanted to create this piece to honor the both of them.

Grace Lee Boggs

glb - long quote - online.jpg

A portrait of Grace Lee Boggs.

The quote reads, “To make a revolution, people must not only struggle against existing institutions. They must make a philosophical and spiritual leap and become more ‘human’ human beings. In order to change/transform the world, they must change/transform themselves.”

It was a part of Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en Lucha (CTUL)’s “General Strike” exhibit, which took place May-Oct 2017.

Release MN 8

release mn 8

I created this image for the Release Minnesota 8 campaign. In August 2016, 8 Cambodian Americans were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a nation-wide raid. Most of these men came to the US as children and have never stepped foot in Cambodia. 5 of the men have been deported. 3 of the detained have been released. The struggle continues.

A portrait of my grandmother, Jung-Hee Hong

In drawing this, I remembered intimate details of my grandma: the purse of her lips, the softness of her cheeks, the creases in her brow. I recognized how many of her traits I have in myself. And I realized that relationships aren’t restricted by narrow definitions of time & space.
