We Are The River

I was one of the lead artists for the 2017 Power of Vision youth mural program, done in partnership with Hope Community and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Co-leads Olivia Levins Holden, Alizarin Menninga-Fong and I worked with a group of 14 youth, most of whom were from the Minneapolis neighborhoods of Whittier & Phillips.

The lead artist team facilitated the following activities with the youth muralists: team building, developing skills, identifying issues that impact their communities, collaborating on a design, and painting the mural. We have named the mural, We Are The River.

We Are The River is located in Minneapolis on the intersection of Franklin and Clinton Aves.

This piece is my 할아버지 (grandpa) and me holding hands, visiting my 할머니’s (grandma’s) ashes for the first time. My grandpa has since passed. I wanted to create this piece to honor the both of them.
